Cllr Veralouise Behan KCC Submission

Cllr Veralouise Behan sent this submission to KCC
Dear Sir/ Madam.
I’m writing this email, to support the concerns the residence Kingsgrove, and Graysland Athy.
Their green areas should remain so, and cul de sacs should remain intact,
If you have read any of the submissions on this subject to date, I’m sure you understand just what a valuable resource the residence in this area are, and how valuable their contributions have been to its preservation and upkeep have been.
Right now there is a real need for housing and green spaces. The green spaces within these estates need to be left as they are. More and more, people are becoming aware of our responsibilities as global citizens. Globally, at least one acre per day of open land gets covered in concert. The residences of Graysland and kings grove in Athy, don’t want to be part of that environmental problem, they are already part of the global environmental solution. Solutions are often the little things, such as keeping green spaces, green.
The residences in this area have vast grounds keeping, and horticultural knowledge, Their desire to preserve nature is Admirable.
It’s obvious that, they are very keen to continue to do so. I think it should be part of the Kildare Co Councils’ ambition to facilitate them. To empower them to continue to do good for their community. This sets a positive example for future generations.
Outdoor social gathering spaces are in demand, I think they will continue to be, and they need to be preserved. Children’s access to the natural environment should be protected. If anything Lighting and footpaths’, need to be maintained to a better standard, so people can move around safely. Traffic volumes, need to be kept to a minimum, Modern estates are laid out and designed with chicanes to help reduced speeding, these estates are older and have long straight roads, which do the opposite. Adding extra properties to this area would simply be dangerous.
Just like one can’t handle small towns with city gloves, one can neither handle older estates, designed for the time when they were built, by simply increasing houses, to match increasing modern housing demand. It’s unworkable. The area is simply not designed for it.
Thank you for reading.
Kind Regards,
Veralouise Behan Cllr.
